Lakshadweep an island South West of India is facing some new problems. The locals are worried and raising questions lately. The Government of India’s move to introduce some new laws is irking the islanders. #savelakshadweep & #RevokeLDAR has been seen on various social media platforms sitting the possible new laws (Lakshadweep Development Authority Regulation,2021-LDAR 2021) or rather be called as restrictions by the Lakshadweep island administration. From banning beef to imposing a new detaining law, the situation is pretty much cautious. From the first day of joining of the Island Administrator appointed by the President Of India, Mr. Praful Patel, things are upside down. The locals are in a panic state, because Mr. Patel is not a civil servant, unlike other times. Praful Khoda Patel is a former Bharatiya Janata Party leader.
Section 10 of the Lakshadweep Animal Preservation Regulation 2021 draft contemplates life imprisonment up to 10 years and a fine of up to five lakhs rupees for violates Section 7 and 8 of the draft bill. These sections put forward a total beef ban and make it an offense(Prohibition against selling or buying beef or beef products.). 96% of the population in Lakshadweep is Muslim. The BJP leadership in Kavarathi themselves is against this move. Is this the new model of beef politics?
(1) No person shall directly or indirectly sell, keep, store, transport, offer or expose for sell or buy beef or beef products in any form.
(2) Whenever any person transports or causes to be transported the beef or beef products, such vehicle or any conveyance used in transporting such beef or beef products shall be liable to be seized by such authority or officer as the Administrator may appoint in this behalf.

Unending Regulations For What? Lakshadweep Island
Furthermore, The draft Lakshadweep Panchayat Regulation 2021, propounds that any person with more than two children ineligible to contest panchayat elections. This has drawn much criticism and locals have alleged that the administration is trying to overthrow the present system on the island.
Provided that a person having more than two children on the date of commencement of this regulation shall not be disqualified under this clause so long as the number of children he had on the date of such commencement does not increase:
Provided further that a child or more than one child born in a single delivery within the period of one year from the date of such commencement shall not be taken into consideration for the purpose of disqualification under this clause.
CHAPTER III, Lakshadweep Panchayat Regulation 2021 Draft
Lakshadweep has the least crime reported as per the NCRB data. Even though, the administration is bringing Lakshadweep Anti Social Activities Regulation 2021 draft bill. The incalculable power given to the administrator is raising the alarms. Section 14 of the bill says, “The administrator may if satisfied with respect to any person that with a view to preventing him from acting in any manner prejudicial to the maintaining of public order, it is necessary to do so, make an order directing that such person be detained“.
The peaceful tourist atmosphere has shivered. The dark side of such strong-arm rules has done worse in the homeland. It’s unknown what the government is trying to propose as every other step PM Modi has taken lately. Many political leaders have already lent their support to the locals in Lakshadweep Island. Online protests and campaigns are going on in the light of the COVID-19 second wave.
