Being An Entrepreneur Despite All The Odds: Vocal For Local

When you want to start something great, you have to nurture it with your blood, sweat, and tears. Your way would be difficult and everything would be against you, plus what if you are a girl from Gorakhpur? The answer came from the owner of Salome by Sameera – Vocal for local.

Running a business is never easy. In order to run it well, you need to do everything on your own in the initial stages. From designing to curating, to packaging, to marketing, everything is done by a mother-daughter duo – Farzana Suhail and Sameera Khadeeja, respectively.

“It all started in the year 2017, with the sole intention of converting my mother’s passion of Jewellery making into something worthwhile,” – Sameera Khadeeja.

Starting it off from a mere Facebook page to listing the Products on major e-commerce websites and marketplaces (Flipkart, Amazon, Yeebo, Meesho, etc) they’ve come a long way. However, the road to this was never easy. You need to focus and work really hard in getting things done. Besides, you got to be patient and honest in whatever you do. If you nail the art of patience, you can make your business flourish. The Liberal Wing always stands with the local initiatives under the Vocal for Local move.

What is sustainability?

Sustainability means meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. At Salomé by Sameera,

We re-use old fabrics and create (recycle) them into amazing designs without harming the ecosystem. As our products are majorly handcrafted, these products offer higher quality and more attention to detail–but they can also give buyers some surprising side benefits as well.

In fact, work by hand takes less energy than a mass production assembly line, which makes it more environmentally sustainable. Sustainable Fashion is a new trend and promoting sustainability is our motto.

Why the word Salomé?

Salomé is a “Hebrew” word which means “Peace”. Jewellery making was the only thing that gave me peace amidst the chaos. Hence, the name ‘Salomé’.

SBS is all about love – Love for creativity, love for fashion, love for ethnicity, and love for all things handcrafted.

However, to run a successful business, the most important thing is networking and marketing of the brand. In conclusion, Salomé by Sameera is all set to market it in 2021.
