Since last week, the US has been facing massive protests across the country. Hashtag #blacklivesmatter has garnered a lot of attention on social media. Various celebrities are posting and encouraging people to join the protests.

This is all happened after the video of George Floyd’s Death went viral on the internet. Actually, it was not a death at all; it was a horrible crime committed by a policeman who kneels on his neck in Minneapolis. It was started with Floyd being arrested in an accusation of using a counterfeit $20 note at a Cup Foods grocery store. One of the staff called the police. After this, the police have been facing a lot of flak. Several cities of the US have seen massive protests.

Policeman Derek Chauvin has been fired from the police department. He was charged with manslaughter and third-degree murder. Four policemen have been fired too.

Peaceful Protests

While at some places, people are protesting peacefully with their only one motto, “Black Lives Matter”. In Miami, Florida, police greeted the protestors and requested them to be peaceful. The police went down on one knee to show their solidarity. In the state of New Jersey, police joined the march with protestors. One police chief in Houston, Texas also promise the protesters that their local police are with them. This shows how Police and People can peacefully co-exist even at the moment of high tension.

Riots Will Overshadow Peace

Two wrongs don’t make a right. This is one of the best explanations of these protests that are being held in cities of the US. If peace is somebody’s motive, then an unpeaceful protest will not work. Apart from peaceful protests, violence and looting have broken out in the US. Some key incidents are –

  • At CNN Center in downtown Atlanta, protesters set a police vehicle on fire.
  • Looting and violence have already devastated Chicago.
  • In Columbus, the protest turned out violent and the protestors smashed a window at the Ohio Statehouse.
  • Destruction of property and violence has been done in Dallas.
  • In Minneapolis, Looters destroyed various parts of the city after Floyd’s death in Police custody.
  • In Minnesota, where George Floyd was killed, police resorted to pepper rods to disperse the crowd.

Looting, Arson, Destruction, Riots and Violence will only overshadow the peaceful protest. This fight is against racism and it should be fought with peace, not violence. These violent incidents would do more harm to people who are protesting peacefully. In response to violence, the government has sent in police and the National Guard. Various videos of police brutality to counter rioters are emerging on the Internet.

As per information, Curfew has been imposed in cities including Atlanta, Seattle, Chicago, Los Angeles, Denver and San Francisco. Around 4,000 people have been arrested amid violence in protests. In an ongoing clash, various journalists get hit by police brutality.

There are so many things going on in the US. One thing that remains unchanged is, “two wrongs don’t make a right”. Black lives matter, police brutality must end, racism must end. The explosive content emerging on the Internet will overshadow the genuine message of these protests.

A protest is a fundamental right, not blowing up buildings and looting businesses. Anger and raising voice is right until it led to destruction. Burning and Looting their own cities would only give them damage. Also, this would just give an obvious reason for the police and the government to take action. Brutality and the death of George Floyd are unbearable and so the riot and violence too.

  1. Now the matter is hacked by the political rivals as Presidential elections are nearby in US and the opposition will not leave any opportunity to gain from the current situation. Also there are always some anti social and anti nationals actively ready to earn from these type of situations by working for rival countries and local politicians. It is the general public to think about right and wrong.
